They will be married this May at Riverbend Chapel followed by a reception at Kristen’s family home, which I cannot wait to photograph. Everyone I’ve met that has a part in the wedding (mom, sister, Grandma, Brad, Kristen) has just been awesome and I’m so excited to see how everything comes together for an amazing wedding day.

When we have a couple as excited about working with us as Jackie + Nick, it gives us even more motivation than usual to produce the best work possible. They put a lot of thought into the look of their day, and it showed in their ease with us, as well as in their playful fun factor. We joined them at a favorite farm that Jackie and her family enjoy visiting. We practically had the entire place to ourselves, so we took good advantage of it. We were all thrilled when the cloudy skies actually began to open up with brilliant light just before the Sun set over the hills behind us, adding that extra touch of something special for their smiling faces (and for Jackie’s lustrous hair). We’re so glad they chose us, and we can’t wait to join them for their summer wedding at The Garrison.

We knew almost immediately that we wanted to photograph Juliana + Elie’s wedding! Their vision for their photographic experience runs parallel with our own. Knowing that Juliana is a designer for fashionable clothing added an extra element of anticipation for our session, too. Their fashionable choices were perfect for what we had in mind, and they simply allowed us to create. LOVE THAT! We joined them for a particularly beautiful day on a farm where we could explore the barn, enjoy some playful privacy in a teepee, take walks in the pasture, enjoy some warm intimate moments in the corn field, and have some romantic relaxation on some bales of hay. We couldn’t have asked for a better day, as everything simply clicked. We’re even more eager to join them soon for their winter wedding at the Roosevelt Hotel!

Jennifer and David were married at The Terrace Club in Dripping Springs on one of our million hot days this summer. It was a sweet and genuine day with lots of love poured into it. I know Jennifer spent many hours designing and crafting away to add a personal touch to their wedding.

This wedding also had some of the most fun dancing! Breakdancing! The Limbo! David and his work friends cutting loose! Justin Bieber sing-a-long! All of that and more. Fun fact – David knows all of the dance moves to ‘Bye, Bye, Bye’.  Nice. I like when people come ready to have a good time.

Shot of the day right here people… James took this one. It’s right before the ceremony and I keep coming back to admire it. The people that second shoot with me humble me with their talent! There is so much emotion here.

rystal!  Here’s a few shots from the eventful day:

•  Talk about lucky – we picked the week right before Irene hit the coast.  While it wasn’t very publicized Irene did a decent amount of damage to the Outer Banks, especially with flooding.  Much of Hatteras Island is still rebuilding and you still cannot access the island by bridge.

•  The week of our trip coincided with our 4th anniversary of our wedding – which took place in Corolla and Duck!  The night of our anniversary we all went to dinner where our rehearsal dinner was and then had champagne with the gang on the beach where we were married!  Awwww right?  Such a fun night!

•  We took a day and went down to Ocracoke Island - one of my favorite places in the world (we were there in 2009).  Many of those with us had never been down there and we had rented a huge SUV so we crammed everyone in and went down with my brother in law Dale behind us (he ended up coming down mid week and stayed just south of us in Kill Devil Hills).  We had a great time and had so many laughs.

•  I’ve been going to the Outer Banks almost every year since I was 6 so it’s rare to find things I haven’t done before but I finally did get to do one thing - a dolphin cruise!  It was a great time!

•  My favorite day of the week was our last day on the beach.  Spent the morning/afternoon by the pool reading.  Took a nap in our hammock under the deck and spent the late afternoon on the beach with a book watching dolphins jump just off shore.  Stressful day huh???

Our first day in Duck was the only day we had bad weather, a few storms went through but we were left with this wonderful rainbow!

We also had a pretty spectacular sunset, this is from our rooftop deck.

The Kitty Hawk Fishing Pier is now owned by the Hilton Garden Inn in Kitty Hawk.  We visited my brother in law who was staying there for the week, really nice place!

This is the “Bridge to Nowhere” on Hatteras Island in North Carolina.  It was built when a hurricane opened two small inlets here in 1933 but it was rendered useless after another hurricane closed it a few years later.  Ironically the inlet that Irene opened isn’t far from here.

Such a gorgeous lighthouse, I’m glad they saved it.  I’ve yet to climb this sucker, someday I will!

One of the best places to see the sunset is atop Jockey’s Ridge in Nags Head.  This image was shot as we drove by at about 65 MPH.
