Brooke and Brian found us thanks to our friends Carlin and Josh, who’s wedding we shot late last year in Cancun. The first thing Carlin told me when I thanked her for the referral was, “Be ready. There’s nothing quite like a Grainger party.”
In my expert opinion, that was a slight understatement….
Brooke and Brian’s wedding day was full of color, laughter, slightly dirty accountant jokes, and one CURAAAZY party! The whole event took place in downtown Jackson, MS, with the ceremony at the Cathedral of St. Peter the Apostle, and the reception at the Old Capitol Inn. Both venues were packed full of character, and made for an awesome backdrop to Brooke and Brian’s big day!
The reception revolved around an amazing dance party, courtesy of The Compozitionz Band, which included some serious choreographed dances and three wardrobe changes! Needless to say, the dance floor stayed full all night long, and Brian and Brooke were all to happy to get out there and break it down!
To Brian and Brooke, thanks to you both for inviting us to Jackson for such an amazing moment in your lives! We were truly blessed to spend two action-packed days with you guys and your family! So while you jet off to the honeymoon, here’s a couple of our personal favorites from your wedding day …
Loved this shot of Brian reading a note from his bride-to-be …
Seeing each other for the first time …
Awesome decision to go with the Jos. A. Bank suits over traditional tuxes … I want one.

Brooke and her sister …
Sometimes plain white walls are awesome. This is one of those times …

Despite a heat index of 234 degrees, we snagged some awesome light for Brian and Brooke’s portraits, right before the ceremony …

Scottie and Katherine’s wedding held a special place in our hearts. Stacey and I spent a good bit of our time at Samford with Katherine, and Stacey continued to study with her all the way through grad school. So when Scottie approached me about shooting their big day (Daringly before the proposal), there was no way we could say no.
It’s been a joy to photograph a couple of big moments leading up to their wedding this past weekend … including the proposal story last winter, and their engagement session last month!
Shooting their wedding was doubly fun for us, since we share a good number of mutual friends, making Saturday feel less like work and more like a grad school reunion!
Thank you Katherine and Scottie for inviting us to share this awesome moment with you guys! As you enjoy the “secret” honeymoon in Mexico, here’s a couple of shots from your wedding day!
A neat little fact … Scottie and Katherine each had their portraits taken at their respective alma maters …. Birmingham-Southern and Samford …
Almost all of Scottie’s groomsmen were HUGE ultimate frisbee players … so despite some scorching heat, they decided to take off the coats and through the disc around for awhile …
Vulcan Park is such a great place to have wedding receptions. Unfortunately, the weather was less than cooperative with us … and soon after we finished the first dances … some crazy rain clouds forced everyone inside …
But thankfully, with some help from the guys at the reception, we were able to move the party inside, and rock out with Van from Feel the Beat Entertainment!
Loved the glow sticks!

We headed up to the top of Vulcan for a few shots after the rain stopped, and Scottie opted to throw the garter down to his groomsmen a hundred feet below!

And YES, the Colorbooth was in full swing during the reception! So even when the rain forced everyone inside, there was no shortage of fun portraits!

It’s hard not to have a good time shooting a wedding when you’re subjects are Chris and Meredith. Apart from being a ridiculously nice couple, they’re a breeze to photograph! I new from the moment we shot their engagement session way back when, that Saturday was going to be amazing!
Other than dodging a few rogue thunderstorms that made brief appearances during the portrait session, Chris and Meredith’s day was one of those where nothing could go wrong! We were back at Our Lady of Sorrows Catholic Church for the jam-packed ceremony, and followed that up with a stunning reception at The Club overlooking downtown Birmingham.
Jessica from Morgan Ashley Salon worked her magic for Meredith’s beautiful wedding day look, and all the florals were put together by the folks from Bloom in Homewood.
Meredith and Chris, thank you so much for inviting us to be part of this amazing moment in your lives! As you jet off to the Bahamas for a little honeymooning, here’s a few of our early favorites from you beautiful wedding day …
Loved the detailing on Meredith’s shoes and bouquet!
She also chose to where her grandmother’s engagement diamond for her necklace … so beautiful!
Off to see her groom …
Did we luck out with the church’s crape myrtles being in bloom or what?!
Loved how Meredith’s dress flowed … it was stunning to watch!
Did we mention that they packed out the church?
Meredith’s mom goes into the hall of fame as one of the coolest mothers of the bride we’ve worked with!
Always love The Club’s downtown view…
Taking a break from some serious dancing, hugging, and laughing …
Well hello there Courtney and Michael! See you guys in a month!
Unfortunately for them, there’s audio of this out there somewhere …

Stacey and I got to spend last Sunday with one of the coolest little kids you’ll ever meet. Charla and I worked together while I was at Birmingham-Southern, so when it came time for Griffin to get some pictures made, we were pumped that she asked us! Griffin is a cool customer, and knows how to mug for the camera better than any baby we’ve ever worked with. Seriously, can anyone say child model? Hopefully mom and dad won’t let it go to his head ….

I drove up to north Alabama last week to spend some time shooting Jenney and Matt’s engagement session! Matt had the awesome idea to shoot on his brother’s farm, and the setting was PERFECT. The session almost didn’t happen though, since there were some CRAZY storm clouds all around us before we started shooting. But our luck held out, and we were able to shoot around the nearby farmland, and also made a quick trip to a nearby quarry for a few shots!
Here’s a few of my favorites from Jenney and Matt’s session …

When Angie told us what she had planned for the color scheme and florals at her wedding, Stacey and I were smitten. Her and Derik’s big day this past Saturday was a perfect mix of summer style with a hint of glam!
With a yellow and black color pallet, Stacey and I were left with more photos ops than we could ever ask for, including one of Stacey’s favorite bouquet’s EVER. Angie and Derik were kind enough to give us a ton of time on the big day to shoot with them and their bridal party, which really turned in to some great shots!
And who knew Derik could dance?! Not us … and apparently not Angie, who spent a lot of the reception cracking up at his moves on the dance floor. To Derik’s credit, he was the perfect groom. Posing for shots with Angie as long as she wanted, and spending a ton of time on the dance floor breaking it down!
Thank you guys so much for having us along for the big day Saturday! We had a blast with you and your friends and family! Have fun on the honeymoon (in your new house!) and enjoy some of our favorites!

Stacey and I have the huge honor to be shooting Derik and Angie’s wedding day here in Birmingham. Since the ceremony’s going on as this post publishes, I couldn’t wait to show of some of Angie’s bridals that we shot earlier this month at Oak Mountain State Park. Check back early next week for their full wedding blog post!

It wasn’t soon after we shot Emily’s maternity session last month, that beautiful little Caroline made her appearance into the world! We were so excited to get the whole family in the studio for this little darling’s first portrait session, and Stacey blew it out of the water. Here’s some of her favs from litte Caroline’s first run in front of the camera …

What do you get when you mix the Sonnet House with a bridal party of TWO and one of the most laid back couples we’ve ever shot?
How about some really great images?
Hilary and Brad’s day was as un-stressful as any wedding we’ve ever been a part of. When an early storm forced the ceremony inside, they didn’t even flinch. When the wet grass meant some dirty shoes and smudges on the bottom of the dress, it was no big deal. We were so very grateful for how intentional Hilary and Brad were about simply enjoying every moment of there day, and not allowing little hiccups here and there dampen the mood.
In return, we came away with some awesome images of the two of them, as well as their family and friends! The ceremony and reception were both held at the Sonnet House, one of our all-time favorite places in the Birmingham area to shoot at.
Some other vendors included Danny from Feel The Beat and catering by the amazingly talented folks at B&A Warehouse!
Hilary and Brad, thank you so much for asking us to be part of the big day! We had an awesome time photographing you guys, and couldn’t wait to show you a few of our favorites!

We has such and amazing time with Rob and Miranda on their big day! We’ve gotten to know these two a good bit over the past year, especially since they’ve been part of a number of our other weddings. The ceremony was held at Our Lady of Sorrows Catholic Church in Homewood, and was followed by a stunning reception at The Club.
Despite a heat index that hit 103 degrees Saturday, Miranda and Rob were perfectly happy to head outside for some portraits, and thankfully, we caught a cloud or two to give them some shade!
Their wedding party was LOADED with super-cool people, including Brandon, Abbie and Tara, who we’ll be shooting later on this year!
The reception was beyond beautiful, with the dance floor framed by four TREES. Yes, I said trees. Along with some gorgeous lanterns and table decor, it made for an amazing backdrop to a blast of a party!
Rob and Miranda, thank you guys so much for allowing us to be part of this amazing moment in your lives, and here’s a little sampling of our favs from the day …
