Celebrating Baby Justin’s Arrival!

We could not wait to see Angela + James again. Their wedding was about a year ago, and suddenly here we were photographing their awesome baby boy, Justin. Just loves to snuggle, and word has it that he’s also a huge Jets fan! He’s already getting off to a great start.

Because we’ve had such a great history with Angela + James and their families, they shared a note in their own words about why these photos are so important to them:

James and I have been together for so long, and have always talked about our future. Little did we know our future was closer than we had ever dreamed! We were so blessed to be married, buy our house, and have our son Justin, all in one year’s time. This photo shoot was our opportunity to celebrate Justin’s safe arrival, and our love for one another. We always knew we would be a family someday, and it was so special to have our photos taken for the first time. When those photos came in the mail, I nearly attacked the UPS guy (as did my dog Clarabelle) and I ripped open the packages and smiled ear to ear. They were everything I wanted and more. I was scrambling around my house with my hammer and nails, moving things around and finding the perfect spot for all these new family pictures. I can’t wait for people to come visit so they can see our new art!

Newborn Photoshoot – Jack Henry | Newborn Photography

Who doesn’t love a baby? AND specially with such a cool name as ‘Jack Henry”! We had the pleasure of meeting this precious little guy the other day and he did wonderful. We have been doing more & more newborn photography since our bride & grooms come back to us with their little bundles of joy! Saying goodbye to 2011 and hello to 2012!

Over the last few days I have been gathering images together for this 2011 year end blog post. Looking back through all these pictures, I realized what a busy year it really was for me! I traveled all over the world, I met some remarkable people, made some new friends, mended ties with some old friends, achieved quite a few major goals, had a new website built, lived through two hurricanes, gained one more nephew, photographed some amazing weddings, dealt with some very difficult business situations, learned a lot of lessons and finished the year off with a huge smile! Here is a little walk down my 2011 memory lane….

The year began with photographing an unbelievable New Years Day wedding in Chicago..Followed by a trip to Sedona to photograph a Trash the Dress session for 2 photographers (have I mentioned how much I love photographing photographers?)!!

From Jenny and Kumanan in New Zealand to Heather and Ryan in Grand Rapids, it was a whirlwind wedding year! I traveled to California, Sydney Australia, New Zealand, New York, North Carolina, South Carolina (where we encountered Hurricane Irene), New York again, Mexico (where we also encountered Hurricane Jova), Seattle, and Arizona…Whew, talk about frequent flier miles!

In between the weddings, I was also busy working on some personal projects like “Over the Soup”..more on that later.. as well as fashion shoots, one of which I photographed while rowing a kayak, and workshops! My work was published in Style Me Pretty (where I was asked to join their Little Black Book), Wedding Chicks, Lemon and Lavender, and Professional Photographer Magazine!

So with all that said, sit back and enjoy the pictures! It was truly a magical year and I am so grateful to all my clients, friends and family. I can’t wait to see what 2012 has in store for us!

To all the remarkable vendors that made my job so easy, thank you, you make me look good!

So, I think I’ve gone over my to-do list the third time now, haha! Our little peanut is supposed to come by the end of the week, and we are soooooo ready! :o) I wish I could count down the days until I finally get to hold our baby in my arms, but then it doesn’t want to tell me when the big day will be here, haha … so mama is waiiting and waiiiiting :o)

My email auto responder is already turned on, and I’m sorry in advance for any delayed emails from my end …. I’m probably cleaning the house and doing laundry …. haha.

I’ll keep you guys posted about our new arrival, and I’m sure there will be an overload of newborn photos once it makes it big entrance ;o)

While we’re still waiting for *our* baby to arrive (haha), I was able to sneak in yet an other session, this time with ADORABLE Caroline, who is turning one next weekend :o) Love this little girl :o)

Benjamin

As my business has grown through the years, I have started to do fewer and fewer newborn sessions. Not because I don’t like to do them, but it’s not what I am best at. I spent a few hours with Brian, Jenny and Benjamin and looking back through their images I have found a new love for these sessions. The photojournalistic feel I get from looking through these pictures makes me remember why I got into photography to begin with. I have always loved fine art, but photojournalism is what got me hooked on photography many, many years ago. Being able to capture these emotions and first moments on film is what makes me love my job even more!

I thought I’d start off the new year with a newborn. If you keep up with our Facebook Page, you may have seen some of the previews we posted from this session. While we still focus on weddings, we have started doing more and more kids sessions, and we are really enjoying them. It’s especially meaningful for us when we are photographing the children of past clients. For the past few months, I’ve been putting together backdrops, set pieces, and all kinds of goodies for newborn and baby sessions. This particular little guy is the son of one of our couples that was married in 2010. We were thrilled when they got in touch with us and told us they were expecting. Say hello to Baby Griffin.

So you know how I said I have been putting together sets and backdrops? Well the funniest part of this session was that Griffin wanted nothing to do with all that. So we ended up keeping things simple. He seemed happiest laying on his momma’s lap. When you are photographing newborns there are some tricks to the trade – such as feeding the baby right before so he’s nice and sleepy, keeping the room warm (we even pre-warm blankets), and having lots of soft towels and blankets nearby to gently position the baby. Griffin had no interest in all our little tricks. Maybe he was just really excited to get his picture taken- he was super alert for a newborn. He was awake for most of the session, so we were able to get great shots of those beautiful eyes of his.

These adorable hats were all purchased by Griffin’s mom on etsy. (Everyone who sees these photos wants to know about the hats!) We will definitely be getting some to keep at the studio.
