Sometimes in your life you meet people who simply affirm you in your entirety. They see you and love you for who you are, express their gladness to be around you, and thank you for being in their life. These people have a rare and invaluable gift in today’s world, and the funny thing is, they’re really the ones who deserve the thanks.

Emily and Austen are some of these incredible people. These two go all the way back to junior high, but as the priest stated during their ceremony, whether you’ve known them 10 years or 10 minutes, they let you know exactly how important you are to them — and they mean it. They have genuine hearts for serving others, and they are constantly encouraging each other to grow and become better people as they interact with the world around them.

Their Bellingham wedding at Sacred Heart was touching and beautiful, and a testament to their love and faith was evidenced as both their priest and Austen’s childhood pastor presided over the ceremony. And later in the evening, it became clear just how how proud their families wereof these two – I’m pretty sure there wasn’t a dry eye in the room during their toasts!

Emily and Austen, we’re so grateful to you for not only inviting us to be a part of your story, but also for inspiring us with your clearly evident love for each other and everyone around you. We are thankful to have you in our lives, and hope you continue to grow in your love daily!

We’ve gotten to know Katie and Ryan quite well over the last couple years, and we can say with 100% certainty that they are some of the sweetest, most easy going people we know. And we were able to photograph them a lot last year. And it was always so much fun to be around them. They really are the kind of people who somehow always make you feel like you’re a somebody. You know what I mean? Anyway, we photographed their winter wedding last December… so onto some pictures!

Katie and Ryan have an adorable little boy, and his shoes are the ones next to hers.

While the ladies were doing this, the guys…

It was SO WINDY. Also, that might be the understatement of the year.

I love the simple red rose bouquet and berry boutonniere by Garden Delights.

And there it is, folks, Chris’ favorite bride and groom photo he’s ever taken. When we came up with the tagline “genuine modern portraiture” this seems to show it all. We put Katie and Ryan where there was good light, gave them a general pose, and then caught them laughing (Chris may or may not have made a dirty joke; I know, you’re surprised). We love it.

Kaliko & Omid | Wedding Aftershoot | Bellevue, WA

You may remember Kaliko & Omid, whose gorgeous New Year’s Eve wedding won our hearts and caught the attention of Seattle Bride. We had a wonderful time working with them, and had been looking forward to their fashion aftershoot for many months.

Aftershoots allow us the opportunity to explore places that we may not otherwise be able to photograph on the wedding day, and as we planned for Kaliko and Omid’s session, we agreed that the architecture at their apartment building in Bellevue, WA was worthy of a photoshoot. We began their session there, and after throroughly exploring the lines and light at the Bellevue Towers, we headed over to the Kirkland to capture the sunset on the water. It was a wonderful evening with a lovely couple, and we hope you enjoy their photos!

Oh, how I love it when the groom cries when he sees his bride for the first time. Watching the progression of images of his expression as she approached almost made me cry, too. They had originally planned for his back to be turned as she walked up, but as Andrew said, “I just couldn’t wait.”

Annie’s elegance and Andrew’s admiration.

I love the clapping and the cameras and the excitement. The way the dress beautifully flows (especially that), and the overjoyed I’m married feeling on their faces.

I could have used the more traditional ones I’ve already posted on facebook as their sneak-peek, but this one I excitedly came across begged me to rethink that. Really, it should have its own post entirely. In all of its imperfections (the closed eyes, the arm going through the upper-left side of the shot {which was probably my arm by-the-way. I’m really good at directing my subjects with really large arm movements, fast talking, and loud noises. Much in the same way that I direct my cats ;)}, the blurry-ish movement), this was the most perfect image of all. Possibly my top favorite of their whole wedding (TBD), definitely in my top-five-of-all-time, this one to me is the essence of Annie and Andrew. Iloveitsomuch.

Again with the elegance, Annie. How could your love be any sweeter?!?

This is a reception preview of Stonegate Mansion. It was so very lovely. And I loved that the custom dance floor monogram was purple. Perfection.

One cuddly through-the-crowd sneak from the end of the night. I couldn’t resist posting it now. There is an even better one that I’m holding onto for the full blog post…you’ll like it.

Lauren and Ben | Huntsville, AL Wedding | Part 2

We absolutely love when couples are as excited about their portraits as we are–and after talking with Ben & Lauren about their style, and looking through some of Lauren’s personal photography portfolio, we set out on a scouting trip to find the best spots for their wedding day portraits. Honestly, we love having this kind of creative collaboration with our couples, as it lends itself to some of the most unique, personal, and creative portraits. This is especially true when our couples are up for anything, even if it means braving muddy wheat fields, thorns, or looming rainstorms.

Ben and Lauren, thank you for trusting us and for allowing us to share in your special day. You are beautiful inside and out, and we are so inspired by your love for Christ and the way you seek to live your lives for Him on a daily basis. Keep Him at the center of your marriage, serve and love each other daily, and we know you will enjoy a long and happy life together. We love you both, and we hope you enjoy your photos!

Gretchen & Brett | Hotel 1000 Wedding, Seattle

Every once in a while it’s good to be on the other side – of both the camera and the wedding. As many of you already know, my little sister Gretchen got married at Hotel 1000 on March 13th of this year. I played the role of co-Matron of Honor (shared with my other sister, Hannah) and quasi-wedding coordinator.

Now, I am a big picture sort of person—the kind that likes to throw ideas out there for everyone and then only follow through on the things that interest me most. Gretchen is a little like me–certain things are very important to her and others are simply “extras” that she can live with or without – no big deal. Thankfully for all of us, both Hannah and my mom are incredibly detail-oriented and organized, so they were able to follow along and pick up the pieces, pulling all of our ideas and vendors together to create one truly beautiful event.

Like most winter weddings in Seattle, the day started with rain and wind… and ended with rain and wind! Gretchen didn’t really let this phase her though – we had selected both the getting-ready suite at the Alexis Hotel and the gorgeous ceremony/reception site at Hotel 1000 for this very reason. Getting ready at the Alexis proved to be an amazing decision—not only did they provide us with a gorgeous getting ready suite, but they also allowed us to take first look and wedding party photos in their ballroom. It was the perfect match for Gretchen & Brett’s fun-loving sophistication.

Gretchen’s Maggie Sottero wedding gown was one of the very first she tried on—as soon as my mom, sister and I saw it, we knew it was perfect for her. Very few brides can pull off both offbeat and elegant at the same time, but Gretchen was indeed one of those brides. Her beautiful gown was accompanied by a pair of Jimmy Choo shoes, a gorgeous amethyst teardrop necklace, and an Alexis Bittar brooch that she and my mom picked out together at Nordstrom. All of the bridesmaids’ dresses and shoes were also Nordstrom Wedding Salon finds, where our fabulous consultant Mindy worked hard to make Gretchen’s dreams come to life. But I digress…

Shortly after getting ready, Gretchen headed downstairs to see Brett for the first time. It was love at first sight, all over again. Standing in the window light, they looked absolutely beautiful. I was so incredibly grateful to Gerald and our dear friend (and talented photographer) Erwin for being there to capture it all so that I could simply enjoy the moment with my little sister.

There were so many other moments that I felt blessed to witness: Gretchen smiling ear to ear at the way Christianne from Flora Nova had transformed Hotel 1000 into a Pacific Northwest wonderland for her; hearing the quiet whisper of Brett’s vows to Gretchen; seeing the side-to-side trot of the ring bearer, Zeus making his way down the aisle (you may remember him from his puppy photos); and Gretchen pulling me aside at the end of the night to tell me everything was perfect and she was so incredibly happy.

Gretchen & Brett, we love you both and pray that God will bless your lives and marriage. We hope you’re having a blast in Italy, and can’t wait for you to see these photos when you return! :)

Kaliko & Omid’s Persian-Hawaiian Wedding | The Harbor Club, Bellevue

As an anthropology major, I love interacting with people and cultures that are different from my own, and it’s especially exciting when those interactions take place in my own backyard, and as part of the job that I love. Kaliko & Omid are a very metropolitan American couple, yet their different cultural upbringings and traditions made for a fun & unique event. During their Persian-Hawaiian ceremony, they exchanged honey & received blessings around the sofreh (the traditional Persian wedding spread), while also presenting beautiful Hawaiian leis to their closest family & friends. Their reception was full of dancing–from the Hawaiian hula to the Persian knife dance, and family and friends came all the way from Hawaii and Iran.

What stood out above all of these beautiful cultural traditions, however, was the passion and love that Omid & Kaliko shared with each other and with all of the people around them. They were so thoughtful to include many friends and family in various aspects of their celebration and went to great lengths to ensure that everyone had a fun New Year’s Eve celebration. In fact, they found out that their wedding date was also Gerald’s birthday, so they took the time to surprise him with a cupcake to celebrate his birthday. Now that’s a pretty special couple. Kaliko & Omid, it was a joy & an honor to capture your wedding and we can’t imagine sharing our New Year’s Eve with anyone else. Congratulations!

Tony & Rachael were married at the lovely Laurel Creek Manor and had the most perfect of days. The details were enough to make any girl sigh & smile. Beautiful teals, purples, greens, peacock feathers & a birdcage veil made my job quite easy. You may remember this adorable couple from my engagement session HERE…and yep, in their wedding photos were just as photogenic. Tony & Rachael, congratulations & thank you so much for allowing me to be a part of your wedding day!

It is so rare for me to photograph couple that lives in my own city…ever heard of Puyallup? As in the good ‘ol Puyallup Fair? Yep, I was so excited to shoot my new local friends and we even met at a park that I like to run in. Nice. My blog posts are dragging right now, but you may remember you got to see their wedding sneak peak HERE.
