little Murph

Sigh... this series just puts a smile on my face :).  Meet little Murph, the coolest kid in town. Chris and I went on an adventure with Murph and his rad rents, Alyssa & Rich, while we were in Upstate New York last week. I'm knee deep in lots of edits but this series just grabbed my heart strings like mad so I just had to share. This is Murph chasing me down in the rain, the shutter is just slow enough that you can see the rain drops in some, but mostly I just love the pure energy and freedom in these frames.

Is it just me or does life feel like it is just flying? I don't know where my days are going. Yesterday I sat down at my computer at 7:30am and the next time I looked at the clock it was 3pm... it's like I've been sucked into a black hole time conundrum. Last I looked it was Monday and now it's Friday?! Sometimes I wish that I could just go Zach Morris style and throw up the "Time out" sign while the rest of the world stops around me. It's times like this when I am reminded that time really is the greatest gift we can give someone. I'm learning a lot about life balance and how to allocate my time best right now. It's a challenge! I know it is one many small business owners encounter on a daily basis... especially the moms of the world. I don't know how they juggle it all. My hats off to them for raising little gems like Murph, running businesses and still keeping their cool.

Happy Friday, may little Murph make you smile like he did me :)

Seattle Photographers – Gerald and Airika Pope!

View Photographer Profile

It’s funny how online social networking sites have changed the world.  We “met” Gerald and Airika last year through Twitter and caught up in person at a photography conference.  They are the leaders of the Seattle Pictage User Group and we had been talking about us coming out to speak to their group since last fall.  We finally made it out on a little personal/business trip last week and thank you so much to the Seattle PUG for having us!  You guys were such a great group!  To Gerald and Airika – thank you so much for inviting us into your home and showing us around Seattle!  We had such a wonderful time and really enjoyed getting to know you guys better!

While were were in town, we did a few images for their new website and branding that will be launching soon.  These guys are as cute, genuine, and warm as they appear in pictures! — probably even more so!  Hope you enjoy them!

Thought this was too funny not to share. :0)  Seven doesn’t normally attend our photo sessions and from the look on his face, I’m thinking he prefers to stay home!

Lauren and Kristin~ Editorial Part 2

View Photographer Profile

Now for the final installment. I am gonna be honest, these are my favorite shots from the whole session. The sun completely and utterly cooperated with us on the timing of the final scene. Nothing but dreamy, creamy, warm backlighting. The girls did an amazing job styling themselves for the field shots in their sundresses, boots, and accessories. The beauty of friendship and motherhood seems to ooze from these and I find myself smiling with each edit. Please be inspired and leave them some love.

Once again my wonderful friend Sarah, from Solace Restoration, hooked us up with some great props. For mother’s day, her husband made this amazing sign from some old barn wood. He hand stenciled a portion of a song of blessing on the sign. It is a powerful song with incredible lyrics of blessing for children. The sign was perfect for these mommies-to-be. I also grabbed some vintage pillows that she sewed out of old sugar sacks. The quilt is actually an unexpected find of Adam and Lauren’s. If I remember correctly, they were given an antique china cabinet from Adam’s great grandmother and in one of the drawers they found this half sewn quilt made by his great grandmother from the 1950’s. The quilt will grace Beatrice’s nursery. Without further ado……

ADDENDUM since posting: Some of you asked for full lyrics. Here they are. Song written by Dennis Jernigan.

I bless you with joy and peace and love that won’t let go. I bless you with grace and faith and fire in your soul. I bless you with dreams and visions most men don’t know of. i bless you with a deeper knowledge of our Fathers love.
I bless you with strength and power, grace through any trial. I bless you with wisdom and with comfort in your smile. I bless you with great adventures, journeys yet unknown. I bless you with hearts gone wild because you are His own.
I bless you with the heart of a warrior, grace to stand and fight, I bless you with brothers who will stand right by your side. I bless you with courage till the battles have been won, I bless you with the faith to hear your Father say “well done”.

CHORUS:
I bless you with joy and laughter, I bless you with a steadfast faith, I bless you with the hopes and the dreams that your heart goes after, I bless you with amazing grace.

A little out-take. Getting in this position for Lauren was a logistical feat. She had to balance against Kristin’s thigh which Kristin was a little too zealous to lend; tipping her over.

Much better.

Before we end with the adorable watermelon eating I just want to break to our two prop wenches that helped load and unload all over the property for us. These are not flattering shots but alas, we want to give honorable mention.

This is Kristin’s Adam working the pinwheel while frolicking with the horses.

These watermelon shots absolutely crack me up. The girls were starving by the end as it was a HOT, long five hours from start to finish. They devoured these watermelon slices in seconds.

Le sigh…..

Girls, I have said it a million times but THANK YOU! You exceeded each and every expectation I had for this shoot. We are so proud of the images and we are so pleased that these remind you of the blessing of pregnancy and friendship. We can’t wait to meet Violet and Beatrice in the upcoming months. Blessings!

Baby Violet

View Photographer Profile

If you look at the iPhone 4 blog post below, you’ll see an image of Sean and his friend and their babies at the end of that post.  That friend is Jesse and that image is especially special because pictures of Sean and Jesse have been being taken since they were 8 and 9 years old.  We’re so happy to still have Jesse as a friend all these years later, to have added his wonderful wife Jessica to the mix, and now to be raising our kids at the same time. :0)  I’d like to introduce you to Baby Violet: born July 11, 2010 and featured here at 7 days old.  I don’t often photograph babies, and never before one this small, so it was an interesting experience!  We had fun trying to mould the tiny little thing and really, it’s hard to mess up when you’ve got such a good looking family to work with!  Still, I have a special appreciation for baby photographers and for those baby photographers reading this blog post, I hope you’ll indulge my attempt at newborn photography! ;0) Enjoy!

Violet’s personal favorite. :0)

Claire & Brett

Claire & Brett are beautiful people.
I know Brett from our college days back in Oklahoma State. My favorite memory of Brett is when we took a photography class together. At the time, we were the only two in the class that brought in our own SLR camera's and opted out of using the standard point and shoots offered with the class. The professor of the photography class was an old news photographer who wore kahki pants and a pressed blue button up shirt with the top button buttoned every class. This is a guy who had absolutely ZERO passion for photography, it was like listening to Ben Stine for three hours at a time. It was absolute torture.  And now, the irony of it all is both Brett and I are now photographers. Despite our horrific run in with the most un-inspired photography professor of all time we somehow came out okay :) But I just love thinking back to being young kids sitting in photography class being bored out of our minds and laughing at the pure irony in it all :)

These two were visiting Seattle when we had Genevieve & Joel's mentor session so they were kind enough to be our beautiful models for a bit so that Genevieve & Joel could see how we work together on a shoot. I love the way life comes full circle and people that you share a seemingly random class in college with cross paths with you later in life. Small world moments make me happy. Enjoy a bit of Claire & Brett!

In the Country: part I

A while back I was contacted by a fantastic stylist in Portland, Rebecca Westby about putting together a test this summer on her parents property in Gig Harbor. When she told me there was mini-ponies, sheep and all kinds of other little intriguing creatures I was sold! :)

This is part one of an all day shoot we had in the country a few weeks ago. I cannot stress the importance of shooting for yourself enough. We are so busy right now it would seem crazy to most people to go out and do a test, but I would dare to say they are absolutely necessary to staying fresh and pushing ourselves as photographers and artists. It's essential to go out and shoot something different than what you are used to and have the freedom to try something different and see things from an entirely new perspective. This shoot was exactly what I needed in the middle of our busy season. It was so much fun to be out there frolicking in the sunshine with an amazing group of people who made this shoot a reality. I am so thankful for the talented friends that gather round to share their talents with the world. They are what make shoots like this come to life. Happy Friday everyone!
