What photographer wouldn’t love the opportunity to do a lifestyle shoot with one of their favorite models? When Flora Wade (MUA), Jen Fellows (Stylist, Photography), Ashley Valenzuela (Model), and Chesley Tolentino (Wardrobe) gave me the chance to shoot for this one, they didn’t have to offer twice! I was like a kid in a candy store: “Me?!? Really?!?!?” Then I eagerly grabbed my camera bag and we set to it.
Ashley is such a sweet girl, but she sure can bring the attitude when she wants to! We hope you enjoy this small sample… look for more on the website to come.

I had an amazing time photographing Markey’s High School Senior Photos at her beautiful family home. Markey is an amazing and fun young women who loves to read and is a fabulous piano player. I had a great time talking and getting to know all about Markey and her plans for college. Even thought the weather wasn’t the best all day, we found some really cool places indoors for photos. It was also great that we were able to use her mother’s studio space ( Gardeenia Floral) for some amazing backgrounds as well. Here are some of my favorites, Congratulations on Graduation Markey!! Best wishes for College this fall!!

Kim and Nico met me on one of the rare sunny & dry spring days we’ve had recently. What a treat to photograph just mom & son…the session was Kim’s mother’s day present. It was the most perfect, fun & relaxing session & I loved every minute with these two! At the end of our time, I couldn’t help but tear up a bit when they were reading together. Those moments are so real and tender- those times together just hanging out are what it’s all about to so many moms. I just loved it.
Thank you Kim & Nico for spending the evening with me & allowing me to document this fleeting window of time…and big congrats to Nico, the little track superstar!

In April we had the AH-MAZING opportunity to collaborate with DWR (design within reach) in the 6th Annual Modern Phoenix Expo!!! Thanks to Alison King, founder of MoPho, we were introduced to the witty Gabe from DWR. We paired an eclectic mix of mid-century modern furniture from their Scottsdale location along with our 21st century modern HIP photography. IT WAS PERFECT!!! Here are some details we grabbed of the killer booth living room space. The idea behind the collaboration was to create a look that reflected a cozy living space along with some personal artwork. As if it was an actual living room. Cause you know purple nickel ain’t gonna do a boring ’stand behind your table and hand out brochures’ booth concept. It was really different for the attendees because they could actually walk into our space, sit on the furniture and roam through the pages of our books. Check em’ out…
Funny enough while we were editing through the images we found this shot where we randomly captured our recent client’s ‘David + Elfi‘ who booked us after seeing the space. WOOHOO!!! And Gabe also happend to be in the shot. He’s the one in the light blue button down shirt with a clip board! Ha. Yeah we put him to work collecting info/volunteers to receive a complimentary MOD headshot by yours truly. Actually we didn’t put Gabe to work…he totally offered which was way cool. Thanks dude! We’re gonna post the MOD headshots in a later post so stay tuned.

If you didn’t notice by now the last image are our brand spankin’ new biz cards that we had designed by a good friend of ours Leticia. She helped our vision come to life and you have to see them in person to experience the texture, size and embossing. WE LOVE THEM!!!
We’ll also be posting our 2 sample book designs in a slideshow…coming soon!
Below is our ‘take away’ we created for the MoPho attendees. Specs: 6×9 on glossy finish

A few weeks ago we had the pleasure of photographing the Gonzalez crew for their family portraits. This is their 3rd session with Purple Nickel Studio!!! AWESOME! We photographed Rhonda + Jerry’s engagment session in 08′, then their wedding in 09′ and now their family in 10′. We LOVE our job!!! But these guys always make it easy for us and it totally shows in their session. When our clients give us creative freedom it’s endless on what we’ll come up with. And we have to say this is one of our favorite family sessions this year so far…
Check em’ out they’re too COOL!!!
Thanks Gonzalez family…we always have a blast hanging out with you guys and are soooo lucky to have you as friends!

8 girls + 8 guys = SWEET SIXTEEN!!!
You’ve gotta click HERE to check out the previous sneak peek blog post and story…you know you wanna!

Just for laughs…

We photographed the above series of images separately (cropped ‘in camera’) and then pieced together in post production. We never meant to compose the images this way at the time but after some experimentation we knew we just had to show em’ this way. Hope it made you giggle!

Yay!!! So excited to finally talk about this with all of you lovely people. My great friend Erin Durband aka ‘Mama D’ (you’ll have to ask me about the nickname) started brainstorming a wonderfully whimsical project last year. It’s called ‘Laundry Bags‘. Erin is fine art photographer located here in Tucson, Arizona and her idea was formed out of fustration. Cause that’s usually when all great ideas are formed aren’t they?. You can’t find it…well then create it. And that’s exactly what she did. Can I get a ‘WOOT WOOT‘!!! Erin’s photographic speciality ‘trash the dress’ or as she clever-ly named it ‘dirty laundry’ needed something to deliver the dirty laundry in…meaning her artwork. Laundry Bags was born!!! These nifty bags are the perfect mixture for taking a sample canvas or framed artwork to a client meeting or when hand delivering a sold product to a client. They’re so cute, cozy and fashionable. A groovy solution for photographers by a photographer wouldn’t you say?.
All bags are hand-made by Erin. They are not cut from a pattern but exclusively designed. No one bag will ever be duplicated. Each are fully lined with coordinating or contrasting fabric adding an extra security for your precious artwork. The handles are way too cute. Some of the bags even have pockets. Certain styles contain a small pocket perfect for your business cards and others have larger pockets for albums + prints. Custom orders are available upon request and can be designed to cordinate with your brand. I think she’s thought of it all!!! To check out the orginality head over to the Laundry Bags Etsy site now to reserve yours.

Also last Sunday Eric & I had the pleasure of photographing Erin for some new publicity shots plus two of her latest bag designs! It’s so FUN photographing other photographers…they usually know exactly what to do and can grasp the concepts we’re envisioning. It’s SWEET!!!

I would have to say that shadow shots are my FAVORITE images to create. While editing through the Elver’s family portrait session this one caught my eye. Eeeeeek don’t you just LOVE all the character in this photograph?. The detail of the hat, body shapes and Goliath’s puppy-dog ears!!! Me likey. Ok so I just changed my mind… shadow shots + dogs are my favorite!
