Ok, now that we’ve covered that point, I have to tell you that’s it’s not the most interesting part of this wedding. As always, there’s so much more to a couple and a wedding day than just a (ridiculously cool) profession. What struck me most about Bas and Courtney’s day was how they brought an effervescent coolness to Kansas City. It was fueled in equal parts by Bas’ super friendly Dutch family and the couple’s troupe of NYC friends who made the journey to celebrate with them. Case in point: One of Courtney’s bridesmaids is a fashion designer who crafted her gown and all the bridesmaids dresses.

A hallmark trait of our couples is that they are cool under pressure and adopt a “go with the flow” mentality. Danielle and Brycen fit that description to a tee. Most couples faced with a last minute venue and catering change would be on the verge of a meltdown by the time the wedding day hits. Instead, Danielle and Brycen kept their eyes on what was important on their big day: being surrounded by family and a host of international friends… and climbing into an abandoned castle at the request of their photographers. It’s safe say they were meant to be our clients.

(If I could include some sort of cheesy build up music before this text I would, because saying “3D is now on the blog” seems underwhelming without it. So make your own soundtrack of excitement and get ready to be blown away.)

Until now we’ve only been able to share our 3D work in person. Through the magic of Photoshop and Aaron, we’re bringing 3D images right to your home through this blog. There’s only one problem. You need the funky red/blue glasses to really appreciate the pictures. If you have a pair laying around, pop them on and tell anyone close by to look out because your head may actually explode from the sheer visual awesome that’s about to invade. If you don’t have a pair, hop over to our web site, fill out our contact form and tell us that you desperately need a pair of glasses. We’ll send them your way as long as you promise to share with others who will also appreciate the work.

If we’ve ever met at a bridal show there’s a 99% chance that I don’t remember speaking to you. It’s such a crazy atmosphere that it’s hard to pin down names with faces with wedding dates. There are the occasional standouts, like a bride so excited that we both love red wine and who is instantly endearing thanks to her fervent energy (she later became our realtor) or a precocious groom asking Aaron if he spelled his name the normal way or dropped one of the “A’s” to be artsy (and now ranks in the top 10 most interesting people we have ever met).

And then there is BrandiWyne and Melissa.

I remember speaking to them in the Overland Park Convention Center and noting that they both had bride stickers on, yet seemed like a couple. I didn’t think much of it, but I did remember them when sometime during the second fashion show when the vendor booths get really, really slow they reappeared and asked sweetly (and almost heartbreakingly) if we would shoot a same sex marriage. Our “Of course! We can’t believe we haven’t shot one yet! We’d love to!” was not the kind of response they’d received at other booths (which is the heartbreaking part). It’s shocking to me that someone wouldn’t want to shoot these two bubbly, adventurous women, but their loss was truly our gain. BrandiWyne and Melissa’s wedding day was unique in a lot of ways (hello Wednesday evening affair with gobs of spirited bridesmaids and some awesome photography time in a super cool abandoned building). But at the very core it was still about witnessing and photographing two unique people who love each other and are committing to spend their lives together. And who wouldn’t want to be a part of that?

One of the things we love about the couples we work with is the sheer diversity among them. Crafty indie weddings are all the rage right now, which we love, but it’s nice when an event comes along that is different in its simplicity. Ashley, an event planner by day, captured the simple elegant feel of her day with a muted color palette, but still managed to toss in some personality thanks to her awesome DIY plane themed save the dates and invitations. (Erik is a huge plane fanatic, as evidenced by their engagement session at the Airline History Museum.) I know you’re not here to hear about their details (bring on the images!) but when I thought about Ashley and Erik and what I could tell you, that’s what I kept coming back to. Something about the timeless, effortless, unstuffy details and flow of the day just sums them up for me.
