Happy Birthday Casey

We flew into Virginia on Wednesday for a project we are working on with one of our favorite companies. Saturday was Casey's birthday and instead of sitting in our hotel room, we thought it would be awesome to get out and explore the area to get a feel for what it is like here. We drove about 2 and a half hours (lots of traffic) to Williamsburg Virginia to tour the area and look at all the old buildings. Well first of all it is HOT! It has been over 100 degrees here with a million percent humidity. I may be exaggerating but more than a second outside and I am wilted. But, we had driven 2.5 hours so I still wanted to take part in the activities. We toured the govenor's mansion, which thankfully had air conditioning (obviously updated from the original) and then we had a wonderful dinner and desert before heading back to our hotel. We were only there 4 hours, but it felt like an entire day, since it was so hot. But it was fun anyway!

STUDIO JULIE’s FAVS

Key West Wedding, Key West Wedding Photographer, Key West Photographer, Naples Wedding, Naples Wedding Photographer, Studio Julie, San Marco Catholic Church, San Marco Marco Island Florida

I love this because I was with Jen so much through the planning process I felt like third bridesmaid.  And when she started to cry I then started to cry.  I just finally felt like it all came together for them and I was just so happy!

Key West Wedding, Key West Wedding Photographer, Key West Photographer, Naples Wedding, Naples Wedding Photographer, Studio Julie, San Marco Catholic Church, San Marco Marco Island Florida

Andy says, “Hey Jen” A LOT!  I am talking A LOT!  I actually do a great impression of it if I do say so myself.  I had just done my “Hey, Jen” impression and less then 5 seconds later Andy then says “Hey, Jen”.  We all got a good laugh.  It was cute!

Does it need a caption?  I just LOVE!!  HELLO!!!!

Key West Wedding, Key West Wedding Photographer, Key West Photographer, Naples Wedding, Naples Wedding Photographer, Studio Julie, San Marco Catholic Church, San Marco Marco Island Florida

Calm before the storm.  I knew every detail of this wedding.  I even helped pick I think just about everything out.  It was exactly what Jen wanted…of course-minus the thunderstorm.  Thunderstorm and all it was FAB!

Key West Wedding, Key West Wedding Photographer, Key West Photographer, Naples Wedding, Naples Wedding Photographer, Studio Julie, San Marco Catholic Church, San Marco Marco Island Florida

Jen and I stayed up late one night and created this candy station. She wanted all pink and green candy…of course I was like Jen…YOU HAVE TO HAVE ANDY’S MINTS!!!  It was quite delish and amazing!!!

I love this!  Mainly, cause I wrote the speech!  HAHAHAHAHAHAHA!!!!

Why did you pick your wedding location?

The scene, it was my vision of what I always wanted. Contemporary, Candlelight under the moon!

What was something that you obsessed with during your planning?

Haha, Everything! Flowers, pictures, the dress, invites.. literally everything!

Tell us about your bridezilla moment if you had one!  Is it funny now?

Hmm.. not sure I had one, more like many! If something was going to go wrong, it went wrong and I reacted. We had major issues with my wedding planner, she was supposed to be at the wedding and she wasn’t there. She made Julie pay our other vendors (who does that??) with the envelopes we had provided to her to make sure everyone gets paid. She was just horrible. Thinking back, you don’t need a wedding planner, you can do it on your own, now that I see what she actually contributed, she only made a few of my ideas come to fruition as she told us where to go to get the items or how to do it. She really wasn’t necessary. The ten percent chance of rain we were for sure we were safe, no tent outside, it rained. No umbrellas, everything ruined. I just stood there and cried. The invitations weren’t right, the church scheduled a wedding thirty minutes in-between mine, which didn’t leave enough time, we had to send out another postcard changing the time two weeks before the wedding. The invitations were not received on time and they went out super late. There were issues with everything, it was exhausting, so I was probably a bridezilla but for good reasons. Julie saved the day multiple times with her fabulous ideas and really helped out when we needed her. She was more like my wedding planner than my actual wedding planner!

What attracted you to Studio Julie Photography?

Your personality, your advice, and your pictures of course!

What was your first impression of Studio Julie {right when the shooting began}?

This is going to be fun!

What photography advice would you give to other brides?

Go with it. Don’t hold back, don’t doubt the picture, there is a vision, you just can’t see it the same way she can. Don’t question what she is doing!!

What did you enjoy them clicking the most?

Everything…

What is something you would change about your wedding if you could flashback?

The weather! Ha. We got rained on with a 10% chance :(

Did you have a 1st Look?  {If you did-are you glad?} {If you didn’t-do you wish you had?} and WHY?

Did you do an Afterthoughts session?  {Why or Why not?} If yes, did you love it?

Yes. It was so hot though, but fun! But brutally hot.. don’t do Key West in July or be prepared to sweat in a wedding dress! And of course it rained, as every session we did it rained. So of course we were wet again. I got a Studio Julie album for these pictures as well and I love every picture in it! Something to treasure forever! Oh and if you are going to trash your dress. Don’t worry about it getting ruined. I was so scared about this as I had an expensive designer dress, but with a great cleaner even all the sand comes out and it is re-stored perfectly fine.

Any other advice or anything you learned now that you are a pro? Retro Bride TALK:

Be organized, rip out pages in the magazines that you want so you don’t go through 10 mags looking for a picture you remember seeing. Have a wedding binder. Set your budget immediately and find out who is contributing what so there are no questions or issues later. Don’t set a date until you know you can have a photographer, videographer, florist, music/dj, for the same date because you don’t want to commit to a date and other vendors aren’t available. Find your venue first and get dates that they can accommodate and then plan your date around one of those depending on your other vendors. You don’t want to have to switch everything around after the fact you decide on one thing and another won’t work sometimes. Do what you envision so you have no regrets! It is your day, it doesn’t matter what everyone else wants. If your in-laws want to invite every tom, dick, and harry let your finacee deal with them, as it is not their dime they are spending, or get the money from them if they want everyone they know there. It’s not about them. And trust your photographers, especially Julie, she is amazing!

Bride’s Favorite Image(s):

Key West Wedding, Key West Wedding Photographer, Key West Photographer, Naples Wedding, Naples Wedding Photographer, Studio Julie, San Marco Catholic Church, San Marco Marco Island Florida

This is a favorite because no matter what kind of chaos was going on inside of the house with hair and makeup, my father was NOT going to miss a meal. So he had his cereal on the porch!

Finally!! Married at last.. One last glance at each other before we walked out of the church!

Key West Wedding, Key West Wedding Photographer, Key West Photographer, Naples Wedding, Naples Wedding Photographer, Studio Julie, San Marco Catholic Church, San Marco Marco Island Florida

Ahh, this was the cover of our thank you card. A favorite because of the scene and the colors, and it was just perfect!

Key West Wedding, Key West Wedding Photographer, Key West Photographer, Naples Wedding, Naples Wedding Photographer, Studio Julie, San Marco Catholic Church, San Marco Marco Island Florida

This picture is an absolute favorite as I have it blown up as a 30 X40 in my house. There is something about this picture I just love, the colors, the trees, the dip (that we are not so good at!), and just the joy of being married!

Key West Wedding, Key West Wedding Photographer, Key West Photographer, Naples Wedding, Naples Wedding Photographer, Studio Julie, San Marco Catholic Church, San Marco Marco Island Florida

This is a favorite. Because my husband, he just doesn’t know what is going on. We got to the reception and it was time to bussell my dress, and he just thought he would take a breather and wait. Too funny if you know my husband. Not paying attention to anything going on, just in his own little world resting!

Key West Wedding, Key West Wedding Photographer, Key West Photographer, Naples Wedding, Naples Wedding Photographer, Studio Julie, San Marco Catholic Church, San Marco Marco Island Florida

This is such a funny favorite. My husband’s ONLY contribution to the wedding was he wanted an ice luge. And I told him it couldn’t be done because at the time, there was no one that could do it. He wanted a gator as he is a UF alum, and as a FSU alum, I was like “oh no” but I gave in.. This was one of his gifts at the wedding and he had no idea it was there. We went upstairs to see the venue and he saw it for the first time. The moment was perfect, beer in hand, standing proud like a Florida Gator!!

Key West Wedding, Key West Wedding Photographer, Key West Photographer, Naples Wedding, Naples Wedding Photographer, Studio Julie, San Marco Catholic Church, San Marco Marco Island Florida

Our first dance, a favorite because of Andy’s expression as we were just so happy and couldn’t just dance swaying!!

Key West Wedding, Key West Wedding Photographer, Key West Photographer, Naples Wedding, Naples Wedding Photographer, Studio Julie, San Marco Catholic Church, San Marco Marco Island Florida

This is a favorite because it was such a sweet moment with my sister and father, it was after our father/daughter dance so she was already crying and It was a very emotional day for my sister as she pouted she is “never getting married” and she was watching my husband and his mother dance. She just can’t wait to have one of those dances with my dad and she was just embracing the moment of it all.

Key West Wedding, Key West Wedding Photographer, Key West Photographer, Naples Wedding, Naples Wedding Photographer, Studio Julie, San Marco Catholic Church, San Marco Marco Island Florida

Oh Andy is crying.. He never cries.. It is a favorite because of this, and he hates that he cried.. But it is his mama’s fault as that trouble maker told him in his ear that he was always going to be his mama and he could always come home.. When I found this out, I was like OMG seriously??

Key West Wedding, Key West Wedding Photographer, Key West Photographer, Naples Wedding, Naples Wedding Photographer, Studio Julie, San Marco Catholic Church, San Marco Marco Island Florida

This is a favorite as my mom and I were watching Andy and his mom dance to their mother son dance and it was so sweet watching them dance and she whisper in his ear and he just broke down crying. 1st time he cried at the wedding!

Key West Wedding, Key West Wedding Photographer, Key West Photographer, Naples Wedding, Naples Wedding Photographer, Studio Julie, San Marco Catholic Church, San Marco Marco Island Florida

The ice luge in action, just an awesome action shot, looked so cool with the lighting and the specialty pink and green drinks flowing through it!

Key West Wedding, Key West Wedding Photographer, Key West Photographer, Naples Wedding, Naples Wedding Photographer, Studio Julie, San Marco Catholic Church, San Marco Marco Island Florida

A fun dancing shot. This was the essence of our wedding after all the rain and after the dinner, it was just a fun PARTY and everyone just having a great time, singing and dancing. Just plain fun and Andy jamming probably not knowing the words to the song! lol

Key West Wedding, Key West Wedding Photographer, Key West Photographer, Naples Wedding, Naples Wedding Photographer, Studio Julie, San Marco Catholic Church, San Marco Marco Island Florida

This is another favorite of the two of us, as it is on the cover of our album. It is just the two of us looking into the distance at the end of it all, just being together. Another MUST have pose I wanted to have!

Key West Wedding, Key West Wedding Photographer, Key West Photographer, Naples Wedding, Naples Wedding Photographer, Studio Julie, San Marco Catholic Church, San Marco Marco Island Florida

Ahhh the sparklers.. I had to have this shot!  I even ordered the super long sparklers and practiced at my house. This was a MUST have picture of mine and just a favorite as we ran through the crowd two times to make sure we HAD the shot! It was funny, as I think back today what our friends and family must have thought as I said to Julie “did you get it” and just to be sure I was like. We are doing it again! So we ran back through the crowd and came out of the building a second time. Funny now, strange then I am sure! But I had to have the shot!

Anymore Questions to Jen or Studio Julie about Jenn’s wedding or experience feel free to ask them in the comment box or email Studio Julie. THANKS!  And THANKS JEN!

Orlando “No Rules Workshop”

View Photographer Profile

A bit of retro was in order for our Orlando Workshop which seemed to fit with the host studio (Nielsens Photography) since their studio is in a train complete with an engine and all!  We had folks from all over come in for this event including, Texas, Utah, Florida, and even Trinidad.  A very diverse group for sure which made for lots of questions and interaction which we love.  Mike and Ann totally rocked the 30’s vibe with the fedora & birdcage veil.  Thanks to our models, our fellow photographers and of course the gorgeous Florida weather we had a blast!  Check out the video courtesy of Shaking Hands Productions and a few of my favorites.  Next stop – Michigan!

Slipped through

View Photographer Profile

This fun family portrait session from last November slipped through the cracks and I never got around to posting it on the blog. This is Ali of Alison Rose Photography and her awesome family. Ali and I trade photo session every year so that we have some fresh images (with us in them!) for holiday cards. In doing so, we shoot for one another and then since we are both photographers we swap files and edit the images of ourselves. So, as the crazy pre-holiday rush hit- I forgot to even look at the images I took for Ali! So here they are months later.

It is always such a blast- thanks again Ali (and fam)!!
