NYC ENGAGEMENT SESSION: LARA + JESSIE

View Photographer Profile

I’m so excited for this post!  Lara and Jessie are only the third gay couple I’ve ever photographed (our mutual friends Kelly Alice and Chris were the first) and they’ll be my very first full scale gay wedding couple this coming April (I also photographed this sweet elopement in the fall).  Yeah!  Jessie and Lara invited me down to NYC for their engagement session as it is both where they live and – more importantly – where they met (under the clock in the center of Grand Central Station, to be exact).  We started off in their cute-as-a-button apartment in the middle of Manhattan (Times Square is their neighbor) for some photos with their awesome pooch, Raji.  Raji is a girl doggy, but her name means King in Indian.  She is most definitely majestic – especially considering her diminutive size.  :)

Love this next image of Raj from above:

After the photos at home, we took a little tour of some of Lara and Jessie’s favorite spots in their neighborhood.  First up, the magnificent Bar Forty-Four at the Royalton.  The bar was sadly closed, but the staff was so nice, letting us take pictures there anyway:

Love all those crazy light fixtures!  Our next stop was Bryant Park.  The light was perfect, with the sun coming out for our little tour of the park:

These guys are super cute together.  :)

Finally, a quick trip through Grand Central Station, to the spot where they met …

And of course I can’t resist posting one last favorite from Bryant Park.  Thank you both for a really fun afternoon, and for the beer at the end of the session!  I can’t wait for your wedding in just a few short weeks!

Hopkington Family Session: Ida, Eric, Bronwyn + Linnea

View Photographer Profile

Last week, I headed west to the little town of Hopkington for a wonderful family session with an incredible family.  I met Ida and Eric, and their beautiful daughters Bronwyn and Linnea, at Sara Anne and Brendan’s wedding over two years ago, back in Seattle.  They’d come out to the west coast for the wedding, and were very happy to hear that I’d since moved to Boston.  I had a really tough time narrowing down a few “teasers” from their session, so it’s going to be a long post.  :)

I wanted to capture the spirit of this loving family, both as individuals and as they naturally interact.  It made for a challenging but incredibly rewarding session.  We started off with some fun hula hooping:

All four play instruments – I thought it would be fun to bring the music outside …

I love the look of concentration on Bronwyn’s face as she plays her cello, and on Linnea’s as she plays the ukulele.  We then grabbed some group photos (with and without their awesome doggies), and some couples photos of Eric and Ida:

The hammock was a great spot for some relaxed portraits …

Time for some individual portraits:

Eric is a professional musician and works many weddings.  Let me know if you’re looking for a guitarist – he’s a wonderful player and a great guy to have around on your big day.  :)

We ended the session with the girls playing on the monkey bars and horsey swing, and Ida with her lovely garden.  I can’t thank you all enough for making it such a fun, relaxed session.  I hope you enjoy your teasers as much as I enjoyed working with you all!
