So first, of all, yes I do shoot rehearsal dinners. It’s a great way for me to get to know the ‘major players’ before the wedding and you get some great candid shots. I’m very low key about these type of shoots. I generally pull the bride and groom aside for a quick shoot, but mostly, I shoot in a very documentary style. I want you to have fun at your ‘warm-up’ party.
Emily and John had their rehearsal dinner at the fabulous Parkside restaurant on 6th Street. Their terrace is incredible on a nice evening and I really love the upstairs space. It’s industrial and chic, but at the same time very welcoming and homey. I had not met this couple until I showed up to shoot, but they and their families could not have been more welcoming and sweet. I am SO glad I got to know them. They had a beautiful wedding the following day at Wild Onion Ranch, which I did not shoot, but have stalked on another photographer’s blog. Trust me – it was super gorg.
Thanks to Cortney at BZ Events for allowing us to meet!

I normally don’t like to post long elaborate stories on the blog. I am a storyteller with images, not words. However, today, on Jenny and Bryan’s wedding day, I have a great story to tell you.
Jenny and Bryan met years ago at a swim meet. They were coaches for opposing teams. Later, when Bryan proposed at Portabla, they decided on an elopement in San Francisco – just the two of them. Word began to get out to family and friends, so they decided to enlarge it to a small wedding for about 30 people in San Francisco. Here’s where things get really good. Jenny had always wanted to be married at her parent’s house in Arizona, so without her knowing, Bryan and her family began planning a surprise wedding. The moms told Jenny that they would take care of all the arrangements in San Francisco – she just needed to show up in her dress. All the while, they were planning in Arizona.
The day arrived for them to leave and crafty Bryan had told Jenny that they had a layover in Phoenix. As they landed in Phoenix, Bryan had arranged it with the flight attendant to announce that all flights to San Francisco had been cancelled because Jenny and Bryan’s wedding for 150 of their closest friends and family would be taking place in Phoenix. At that moment, Bryan handed Jenny the wedding invitation (and man do I wish I could have been there to see it).
Jenny and Bryan, I hope you two have an amazing wedding day today. I can’t wait to see you for part two of our session and hear all the details!!

I also want to give BIG thanks to Cortney Zieke of BZ Events, who arranged this session for the two of them. Cortney and Jenny are friends from college. It’s always a big honor to have a friend, and wedding coordinator extraordinaire, trust you with their friends. I’m glad I could take care of them!
Also, MAJOR thanks toPortabla for letting us have the run of the place. Portabla is a very special place to Jenny and Bryan and the owners and chefs couldn’t have been nicer to us.

If you’ve been around this blog long enough, you have heard me wax on (and on) about how wonderful I think a qualified wedding coordinator is. They make your wedding planning, and most importantly, your wedding day a far less stressful affair. They are a great point of contact for your vendor team and allow you and your guests to enjoy yourself to the fullest at the wedding.
Honestly, they also make my job easier too. Their planning and attention to detail allows me to focus on my job – making you some amazing images. So, what’s not to love?
My wonderful friends over at BZ Events (who land squarely in the ‘wonderful, qualified wedding planner’ column) were in need of some new head shots for their website, so we trekked out in some beautiful light and made some pretty pictures.
Thanks ladies!
Cortney & Becky, the ‘Z’ and the ‘B’, respectively.

Gray & Stephanie

Kerry & her sweet little doggie. Her dog is not technically a qualified wedding coordinator, but she was along for the shoot and super cute, so I couldn’t resist.

Lauren and Travis – my silly, wise-cracking, hilarious and stylish couple. I love these two. It’s a great feeling to really be able to joke around with clients and these two have had me in stitches since our first meeting.
Their wedding took place on an amazing spring day out at Barton Creek Resort and Spa. The most memorable part of their day for me was their emotional ceremony with handwritten vows and tears all around. I could feel the anticipation on both sides leading up to the ceremony and it did not disappoint. These two are so in love and so made for each other.
I am completely obsessed with their color palette. It was so fresh and unusual and classic all at the same time. The details are fabulous as well.
Cortney, Becky and Jana from BZ Events kept the day running smoothly as usual and made sure every detail was in place.
Congratulations you two! I have so enjoyed getting to know you and I hope that your life together is beautiful.
