This summer’s vacation happened to land on the opening days of Reno Neveda’s Hot August Nights. To do something a little different, all the photos in this blog post were made using the Canon 45mm Tilt shift lens ( TS-E 45mm f/2.8 ). Using the tilt shift allows the photographer to create very shallow and selective depth of field, which can be quite useful when photographing objects in a parking lot with many background distractions.

My reflection in the hubcap as I try and capture the details from all the angles. It turns out it’s pretty warm out there in the parking lot taking photos of the automobiles. The aren’t kidding when they say it’s “Hot August Nights”.

Here is a little extra info about this 1961 Corvette. It features a Paul Newman Car Creation Chassis – New 2003 LS-1 Engine – New 2003 4L60E Automatic Transmission – Refurbished 1996 Corvette Independent front and rear suspension – Thunderbird Power rack and pinion steering – 36 rear 3rd member with 3.07 gear ratio – Dakota Digital clock and Gauge package – New 17 inch centerline wheels – Flow Master exhaust system – Candy Apple Red Paint job by House of Kolor – Lexus Crystal white Pearl Coves – Flaming River steering column with custom built steering shafts – Edelbrock Ceramic coated headers – Stainless steel 1961 gas tank with pump.

I spoke with the owner of this 1939 Chevy. He mentioned having spent about $100,000 on the car. It had a quite beautiful paint job.

The selective focus used in this photo makes the Reno casinos appear as miniatures. This photo was taken with a Canon 5D using a Canon 45mm TS-E at ISO 1600 at 1/20 of second at f/3.2.

A couple months ago, a past bride of mine Sarah sent me a link to an application to be a Chevy Girl on the Go for their time in Cleveland. I applied and then found out I wasn’t chosen (bummer!) and went along my merry way. A few weeks later though I was contacted and ta-da! I’m the new Chevy Girl on the Go this month! What does that mean?? It means that I’ll be driving a 2011 Traverse this month so if you’re familiar with my 2009 GMC Envoy I’ll be tooling around in something different for most of September (I can’t drive it out of the area so I’ll be hopping in my Envoy for some weddings) and blogging about my adventures here as well as on Chevy’s site. So be prepared to be inundated with some Traverse stuff in the coming month. However, I promise since I’m a photographer it will all have picture goodies
Each week Chevy will be sending me on missions and I’ll be reporting back my thoughts on each mission which includes seeing how much groceries I can fit inside and other fun trips. I look forward to taking you all along my adventure!

A shot of the Traverse right after delivery.
FTC Disclosure: The Girls On The Go campaign is being sponsored by Ohio Chevy Network Dealers who gave the chosen bloggers a 2011 Chevy Traverse to test drive for one month and blog about our experiences using the vehicle. Girlfriend Getaway has given us some fun projects to do and will be providing us with gift cards to allow us to do this.

Shooting another photographer is always a bit different than a “normal” shoot but this one was different…in a good way!. We met Ty and Shannon at our workshop in Tampa last week and we had a great time talking photography and just getting to know each other. We were actually in Tampa for a senior (High School) convention but we always love shooting a couple when we get a chance. We jumped in the car and drove around looking for some cool spots and stumbled on a ‘57 Chevy, an old marina, and of course a Florida sunset. Niiiiice….. We topped the night off with some Mexican eats. Check out Ty & Shannon and their awesomeness!
