Diem and Joe celebrated their wedding day in early September at the Terminal City Club. Upon our arrival at the Club, Jani and I were blown away by the classy and opulent decor that Diem and Joe chose for their reception space. We started the day in the President’s room following Erica from White Dahlia Wedding & Events around as she magically transformed the room into a thing of elegance. The striped-black chair and table decor and shiny candelabras that Erica arranged through Absolute Events & Rentals and All Occasions Chic Decor Rentals made the space shine. These objects of old-world opulence, accentuated by touches of red, purple, and fuchsia floral centerpieces, were a feast for the eyes. Diem and Joe chose to do a first look on the patio before we headed off along the West Hastings area for photos with their wedding party. Diem looked amazing with her vintage feather and lace, along with the amazing makeup and hair, and of course her birdcage veil (gotta be my favorite kind of veil). Joe was sporting a black tux and sneakers, which added that little touch of personality to his look. Officiated by Rev. Brent Sheppard, the wedding ceremony on the patio was perfect that evening; the weather and lighting were ideal, as the soothing modern renditions from the string  trio carried in the wedding party for a intimate outdoor ceremony against a downtown Vancouver backdrop. The dinner reception hosted by the Terminal City Club staff was fabulous as usual, and we particularly loved the heart-felt speeches that even brought a tear to Joe’s eyes on an occasion or two. The evening continued with dancing, a photobooth, and further celebrations well into the night. Congratulations Diem and Joe on a beautiful wedding!

I’m not the only one who thinks so. Lee’s Mom, Michelle, had this to say when she saw this look in one of the preview pics we sent her for their New Mexico Reception that was held a couple of weeks after the wedding:

“…You captured the look I saw L&L giving each other for the past 6 months!…It is the look that once this mother of the groom saw, I realized I would be 110% behind this marriage, because it was this look of love that every parent wants their child to give to another BUT also, receive from their life partner……….So for this particular picture and the gift you and your partner have to “see/capture” these moments (also seen in their engagement pics!!) I sincerely thank you for being their photographers!”

Michelle, we totally agree about that “look”. You can tell how much Lee loves Lauren just by seeing the way he looks at her so sweetly. Like he wants to take care of her and be there for her for the rest of his life. And the way Lauren shows kindness toward Lee is something that is so precious in their relationship. I can truly feel it too.

Their First Dance at the Reception was just perfect.

This is my favorite thing about The Ashton Hotel: the copper ceiling.

Who can say they’ve had Super Frog in their photo booth pictures?!? I love that he is using our moustache.

FYI, he is taller than our booth. Haha.

FYI #2: We have some pretty new props and vintage signs for our photo booth (and the containers we display them in. Very fab). The booth has been upgraded and it is looking {even more} AWESOME these days.* I’ve been taking pics of it at the last few weddings and will have a post on here sometime soon to give you the full “experience”. I mean, you’ve gotta know the details about what you’re going to be lusting after next, right?

FYI #3: Lauren, I still have some of those extra props you supplied, too. I will give them back to you, I promise!

If you were wondering about the “pretty light” and what it looks like, this is it.

See that pretty rim lighting that has sort-of a “halo-like” effect and makes Lauren’s hair look so gorgeous. Yeah, that’s the sun.

*Tami Winn even said they were the best booth props she had ever seen when she tested them out at City Club’s Tablescapes and Trends a couple of weeks ago. Um, yeah. I quote people. It’s kiiind-of a big deal coming from one of the best wedding coordinators in DFW and who goes to amazing weddings every weekend. She would know. Karin’s dad calls this her “Anthropologie” wedding dress. I love this because a) how sweet is it for a dad to even know what that is?, and b) it’s true. Perfect categorization of this amazingness of a wedding gown.

I just love this. You must know that Stems of Dallas did this bouquet and all of the wedding florals. A.Ma.Zing.

Bliss Bridal, our awesomeAWESOME neighbors, is where Karin found her perfect gown. I could sing about Bliss Bridal every day. Maybe I do, you don’t know…

This is just the prettiest neighborhood gazebo I’ve ever seen. It was on the way to Delaney Vineyards from the field locations we had been shooting in, and when I saw the pink blossoms and the gorgeous grounds (at the most perfect time when the sun was peeking over the trees), I was like: Sweet.

GPS location tagged. Saved.

This Karin-hair calls for a new tag: bridal-hairstyles-halfway-up-a-little-braided-and-a-lot-pretty. People will be searching for this on Pinterest soon enough.

I think I liked photographing the grapes a little too much.

So, I was going to gush about Karin and what an amazing person she is today, but after getting to know Christopher (her Groomie) even better over the weekend, I now have to wait to talk about how absolutely wonderful they BOTH are. Getting to hear the testimony shared at their Rehearsal Dinner by so many of their wedding party, and getting to see how much they have both influenced their friends and so many others toward God really makes your heart jump for them.

Truly, we could not love them more. Karin is synonymous with kindness, gentleness, and every other word used in Galatians 5:22 to describe the Fruit of the Spirit. And Christopher treats her and others in a way that can only be described in 1 Corinthians 13: 1-13 (the love verse).

Behind the Ashton Depot, where their wedding was held. We had such a blast and were running around wielding cameras so much on Saturday (due to the crazy/awesome dancing o-the-friends) that we didn’t even get to talk as much as we wanted to Melissa (Ashton Depot coordinator le’ extraordinaire. That’s totally not French. I made it up and I probably look stupid now to those of you who know the language). Hi, Melissa! You are awesome. XOXOXOXO!

Congratulations on your wedding and being a married lady, Karin! Here’s hoping that every day of your honeymoon this week will pass by awfully SLOWLY. Especially on the days when you’re laying on a beach and you look over at your husband and think that he could not have been more perfect for you.

And that the time you’ve been waiting for is now.

Pale, soft pink peonies…a short vintage-style dress that fit Jenna’s personality to a T…the glittery Jimmy Choo heels I’ve already been bragging about being in the same room with… And those were just the pieces of the day that I glimpsed in the first five minutes.

The details were all set. The feathery hairpiece was pinned in Jenna’s hair with her vintage birdcage veil. The boutonnieres were pinned to the men’s jackets, and they waited in the library, quietly talking to Klaas. Inside, the Great Room was being finalized with the finishing touches of the reception. The band went through their sound check while the waiters adjusted the table settings (nothing feels like a wedding as much as the live instruments quickly running through the songs you’ll get to hear later that night). The notes to At Last floated through the double doors and down the hallway with a familiarity that made me want to hum along. But I just sang the words in my head instead, since my voice sounds more like Etta James’ when I sing silently. Outside, the courtyard chairs were covered in a light mist. They sat in their rows, hopeful for an outdoor ceremony. If the giant dark cloud would just quit hovering and pass already!

She looked radiant. Literally, her skin was beautiful and her eyes shone with a light that can only be described as her Jenna-ness. She would fix her glance at the weather on the tv, then out the window at the seemingly sunny day, then over at the lace dress that hung on the door.

Klaas was ready.

Waiting in the library with his guys was going to be a great memory, but he was ready already. To see her. To stand by her side. He couldn’t imagine what Jenna would look like when she came down the aisle, but he knew she’d be beautiful.

Like I mentioned before, Jenna’s Dad couldn’t take his eyes off of her when he saw her all decked out in her wedding day fabulousness. Hugging her seemed surreal. And to her, it was perfect. Having him there, all nervous and happy and anxious and teary-eyed. It was sweet. His goal was to make this day the best it could possibly be for her. And it was. It would be.

Whether or not it was going to rain, the wedding was going to happen. And as her Mom buttoned the last of the buttons, she took a deep breath and saw herself in the mirror. This is when it hit her. That this was really happening. You can see it in her eyes as the realization washes over her.

This is her Mom’s arm. Reaching out to put her hand on Jenna’s shoulder. Sometimes just a hand over the one you love or an arm draped around your waist can make you feel so safe. Supported. Loved.

Between her Mom and Dad, her very best friends, Klaas, and his family, this day was not short on love.

These are the prettypretty details I couldn’t wait to share. You’ll love their softness.

I don’t know exactly what the wings stand for, but they seem so Jenna (just like the dress. And the shoes). And they certainly fit the soaring her heart was doing that day.

Just before we headed downstairs, we got word from Stonegate that the clouds were parting. Actually, they were passing. They had already passed and they wouldn’t be back. A cheer broke out and Jenna had a bounce in her step. Even more.

And with that, we went outside to break free.

Some of the prettiest florals ever.* Apparently, peonies (the best flower EVAH) are only available around May. Which is perfect for people who love peonies, like Jenna.

I’d definitely say that the vibe was giddy. Even gleeful.

Some more ceremony details.

The moments leading up to the ceremony are always the best. They are the hardest for her and her Dad not to cry, but they are also the most overwhelming moments where the bride feels closest to her Dad.

He did everything he could to keep her from crying.

And while it didn’t completely work, it made for some really meaningful pictures.

Deep breaths all around.

And one final intake before the door opened to reveal Klaas.

Standing at the end of the aisle and trying not to cry himself. He didn’t make it either.

They’d be married under the giant oak tree as the sun gleamed through the now-light-colored-clouds.

The moment their eyes locked from that first step onto the aisle, they had tunnel vision. For each other.

To me, they look like two magnets. Doing all they can to stand one person apart from each other while all they really want is to be together.

Finally, he slipped the ring onto her finger.

From then on, they were husband and wife.
