I have a very large post planned centered around Rhett’s amazing birth on February 12th…but that puppy is going to take a serious amount of brain power to write so for now I am going to finish up the last few “Best of” posts I have planned. I am totally stoked about this category as I find photographing women one of my most favorite things we get to photograph (This is Kelly talking, not Ryan… that would be a wee bit creepy!)

We’ve had no shortage of foxy ladies this year…literally…we had a few maternity shoots with some seriously hot mamas in them! I love how each woman brings a unique facet to the lens…whether it be a killer smile, laugh, amazing eye contact or vulnerability. These are some of my favorites from this year’s shoots. Enjoy the beauty that is women.

Not everyone can pull off “the look”. You know, the one where eyes penetrate a lens and you are drawn into a photo in the most mysterious way… like you just learned something about a complete stranger. Steely eyes, a coy smirk, intensity, confidence, with a dash of electricity. Scanning through a years worth of sessions I still find myself drawn into this collection of photos. There is something about each one of these I have to pause for a moment and stare. I hope you find them as intriguing and compelling as we have.

I may or may not get a little too excited about a good detail!

A fun high heel, a memorabilia reflecting a couple, a killer backdrop, food, furniture, decorations, or even abstract objects. I love seeing what our couples bring to shoots, collaborating on details and putting together backdrops for editorials. I wanted to highlight some of our favorite details, props and accessories of 2010 that brought our shoots character, charm and personality. Enjoy some goodness!

Thank you all for the AMAZING turnout of voters! We were blown away as over 1000 of you weighed in your opinions, some biased….some completely objective. Either way, it was an awesome week of voting and very fun to watch certain categories battle it out to the bitter end. Some of you I wouldn’t like to meet in a dark alley; you were going for the glory!

So to recap the category winners that were put into the drawing:

So if you were doing any math, then you clearly see that both Katherine/Mark and Sarah/Kenny EACH won FOUR categories. I am no mathematician and my brain is far too pregnancy-fried to work out the odds of them winning at least one of the drawings. I wish we had a hidden camera set up so no one doubts what I am about to type.

I KID YOU NOT…..Kenny/Sarah and Katherine/Mark I don’t know the odds of that happening but you guys did not get picked. We actually feel so bad that we are offering a consolation prize of a Starbucks giftcard for each of you to ease the blow.

The three prize winners need to email us with your most recent mailing address and the photo from your session you wish to have printed. Congratulations everyone!
Not to be forgotten, we did pull up an online number randomizer that calculated our 57 commenters. Commenter 11- Meagan from Metropolis Soap was chosen for our $15.00 Starbucks card. Congrats Meagan…have some coffee on us! Email us your address as well.

You guys rock. Thanks for closing out our 2010 season with thunderous applause. We can’t wait to show you what is up our sleeve with 2011. We will shortly be posting an amazing recap of all our favorite moments with engagement, portrait and lifestyle shoots from 2010.

Be patient with us as we are three weeks (or hopefully ) less until we welcome our third baby into the fold! We are taking a deliberate 4 month sabbatical so we can focus on acclimating as a family of five and enjoying many weekends home relaxing!!! TONS of photos coming of our new one, birth story, and a HUGE, FAT, AWESOME upcoming news we can’t wait to tell you all about!

The 3rd Annual “Besties”~2010

It’s that time of year! A true and utter walk down memory lane for Kellan Studios. Some of our favorite moments that captivated our lens, made us giddy or just feel completely humbled that we were present for such important moments. We literally traveled up and down the east coast all year from NYC to Miami, Jersey Shore to Charleston. So many incredible couples and venues….we loved it!

This year we are focusing the Besties on our 2010 wedding clients. We fully intend to indulge you in a big fatty post of all our favorite engagement, editorial, and portrait sessions of the year after the Bestie polls close.

So we ask you to take a moment with each category, consider it, savor it, marinate in it, and cast your vote! There are 11 categories so scroll all the way down. (Only one vote per I.P. address allowed)
It is just that easy!

We will open the polls on Wednesday, January 12 and close them on Tuesday, January 18 at midnight. The winners from the 11 categories will then go into a random drawing. First winner will receive a 16 X 24 canvas wrap, the second winner will receive a 12 X 12 canvas wrap and the third winner will receive an 12 X 18 enlargement. JUST FOR BEING THE BESTEST!!! How rad is that?

Thank you all for the AMAZING turnout of voters! We were blown away as over 500 of you weighed in your opinions, some biased….some completely objective. Either way, it was an awesome week of voting and very fun to watch certain categories battle it out to the bitter end.

We are here in Nashville attending the extremely awesome and did I mention insanely talented Jeremy Cowart Workshop. We didn’t want to leave you all hanging while we are out of town so between bites of quesadilla explosion salad (YUM! Thank you Chili’s) we wrote down the names of the 15 category winners. The Besties 2009 “Because being the BEST is all that matters”

Being the BEST is a huge responsibility, being the BEST as a Kellan client…well that is a whole other realm of importance. Can you handle the pressure candidates? ….CAN YOU????? It’s game time.

It is an arduous task plowing through a year’s worth of photos picking moments, expressions, looks, style, color and emotion that grabbed our eye. This year we structured “The Besties” into categories and changed around the voting.

So we ask you to take a moment with each category, consider it, savor it, marinate in it, and cast your vote! There are 15 categories so scroll all the way down.

During Ellen’s vintage bridal shoot, we worked in a portrait of her mother wearing the original bridal gown.
