out on the town!

When the time came last fall for the Poteat family’s annual session, we thought a downtown adventure was just the ticket! We’ve had beautiful farmland and gorgeous fall foliage as our backdrops in 2009 & 2010, and the colorful character of downtown Kingport sounded like a nice change of pace! Mom Lea Ann always does a fantastic job with attire, and this session was no different…I loved her festive red dress and leather boots, and the boys’ clothing complimented perfectly! Gavin has grown SO much since we’ve known the Poteats – when he first arrived at the studio he was a bit reserved and quiet, but as soon as we headed off he totally came out of his shell. He had SO much energy and crazy all-boy rowdyness, and the images turned out so FUN! Big smiles for everybody – gotta love it! Jason and Lea Ann, we love photographing your family each year, and we look forward to seeing you again in 2012! : )

Oh my sweet and precious niece and nephew…it’s bittersweet to look at these pics and realize how much they’ve grown! It was crazy around the studio in December (as usual!), Christmas was near, and we still had yet to take Cristy’s annual pics! (We’ve figured out that all of us in the photo biz NEVER have pics…much like the old addage of the cobbler’s kid having no shoes!) Everyone was in a panic and the days were getting shorter, so we decided the next pretty day we had, it was on! On my way back to the studio from another session, I put in the call to Cristy to round the kids up…we had about 20 minutes of daylight left, and we were going to make it happen! We rushed over to one of our favorite spots for the last moments of golden sunlight, and the images turned out WONDERFULLY! Kaitlyn, who is *gulp* 13 now, looked so beautiful and grown up…and mister Brayden had just lost his first tooth and was so excited! Both the kids were troopers, and we had JUST enough time to get the Eagan family’s Christmas cards designed and printed for all to see! Who’s up for shooting in July this year?! ; ) Love you guys!

I was so happy when my brother Josh and his sweet wife Megan wanted to include their sweet fur-kid, miss Oakley, in their session this year! My kids love it when Oakley comes over for a visit! She is the sweetest, most well behaved little doggie…and a fashionista, as well! (Check out the bow in her ‘do!) Jen and I last photographed Megan and Josh right before he left for active duty in Iraq for a year back in March of 2010. (click here to revisit that sweet session!) This time, since we were blessed with beautiful, fall-feeling weather, we decided we would meet up for an outdoor session! We had overcast skies on the day of the session, but that allowed us to pretty much travel the property and go anywhere our hearts desired! Megan and Josh, I’m so happy to see that after a year of marriage apart and a year of marriage together, your love is still spot on! : ) I love both of you guys so much! Happy two year anniversary!!

I can’t believe that sweet Kinley Grace has already turned one (take a peek back at her newborn pics here)! Jessica called to see if we could capture Kinley on her 1 year birthday, and we were happy to get it scheduled! When the big day came, we were blessed with gorgeous weather and were actually able to shoot outside…in DECEMBER! *yay* I met up with the McCain family, and it was a nice surprise that grandma came along for the fun, too. It turns out that she has the gift for making Kinley giggle and grin, so I was very glad she was part of the action behind the scenes! Miss Kinley is so gorgeous…I just love her serious and thoughtful expressions with those piercing blue eyes! But when she gives you those sweet little smiles, it’s priceless! Jessica and Michael, I love your images and photographing your precious baby girl! The girls and I can’t wait to see your beautiful prints and watch Kinley as she keeps growing like a little sprout!

Each year I always enjoy shooting the Russum girls! Sweet, sassy Emma and Libby are always up for being crazy, and they keep me laughing through the whole shoot. For their annual Christmas mini, we just strolled around downtown (with their new puppy in tow!), and the images turned out fantastic! Mom Marci loved all of the colors and textures around the studio, and the places we stopped couldn’t have coordinated better with the girls’ colorful outfits. Emma was a bit more reserved this year with her pretty, big-girl smile (she’s growing up!), and Libby was her wacky, happy self! ; ) Marci, the girls are growing up so fast, and we love that you let them be themselves and allow their personalities shine through at each session. You’re an awesome mom, and we can’t wait to see you guys again later this fall!

hayden’s first year flew by!

Oh my goodness, I couldn’t believe that when mom Daphanie called to schedule her shoot last fall it was already time for Hayden’s final Sweet Pea session! It seems like just yesterday Jennifer and I were photographing her maternity session! Time flies when you’re having fun! ; ) (click back here, here, and here for a year review…) Daphanie was looking for something different this go-’round, and together we decided that a downtown urban session would be a perfect new look! When the Parham family rolled up at the studio we instantly loved the soft blue, mauve and creamy color palette of everyone’s clothing! Everybody was in great spirits, and up for the fun challenge of seeking out little nooks downtown where we hadn’t shot before. The bright afternoon sunshine and shade of the buildings brought out a soft, almost peachy tone to the images – and I loved it! Hayden was all big smiles, and Erica was such an awesome, encouraging big sister. And the best part is that we came away with amazing images in time for Joe to head back to work! Done…and done! Daphanie and Joe, I love you guys! Thank you for your continued trust and support, you mean so much to all us Picsee chicks! Love your collection, your cards, and EVERYTHING…and we’re so glad you do too!

Miss Josie is back and as beautiful as ever! You may remember her pretty-in-purple newborn images (click here to look back) - so many people have oohed and aahed over them, the girls and I were all so excited when parents Kacy and Tracey called us again for a quick Christmas mini session last year. (Gotta have those awesome holiday cards!) I met up with this sweet trio on a brilliant afternoon last fall, and couldn’t believe how much little Josie had grown since last time! What a STUNNER! It was so adorable to see this tot and her daddy get some snuggle time together! Kacy had been gone on a work trip for a few days before the shoot, and Josie’s little face just lit up when she saw him…there is nothing like getting to capture true emotions from wee ones (and their parents), and it is always a joy to document overflowing love like the Crowe family has for one another! Tracey and Kacy, thank you again for this opportunity and we can’t wait to see you all again this year.

Sweet baby Averie has arrived, and we were so excited to kick off her very first photo session when we saw all the goodies that mom Heather had brought along for us to use! She had been looking for pretty little things online while anticipating Averie’s arrival, and hit the jackpot with a dainty felt headband, bright coral cheesecloth, and multicolored wrap! It’s always extra inspiring when we have new goodies to incorporate into newborn sessions, and pair that with a sweet, sleepy baby and it’s shooting heaven! Averie was a doll and was SO content the whole session…she was patient enough to let Christy and I pose her in all the setups we had planned, and even gave us a few grins along the way! Heather and Nathan, we love all of your images and cannot wait to see your statement-piece canvases when they arrive! They’ll be breathtaking!

During summer of last year (yes, we’re taking things WAY back!), Terry had surprised her hubby Jan with a “father and son” shoot for him and their beautiful son Lucas. The session took place at their Virginia farm and we loved how gorgeous it was…and since the farm may not always be a part of the Kazmier family, we decided to photograph their annual Christmas session there as well! In front of the cabin there is an evergreen tree the Kazmier’s planted together and have watched grow over the years, and we thought of a PERFECT way to incorporate it in the images! Terry had the vision of bringing Christmas outside, so we went all out, decorated the tree, and went so far as to create our own little living area outdoors! Terry did a wonderful job coordinating everyone’s wardrobe selections, and everything came together perfectly! Lucas was a champ and a perfect model for us – Christy and I could photograph him all day every day! Jan and Terry, we love documenting your family and we can’t wait to dream up next year’s shoot with you! : )
