Thanks for your interest in becoming a member of Modern Photographers. Our goal is to build a list of qualified creative professionals that we can have the utmost confidence in when referring potential clients. We expect our members to operate their business with character, integrity, and professionalism.
Things we look for when considering applicants:
- Business License
- Solid technical skills (focus, white balance, exposure, lighting)
- Creativity
- Contemporary website and blog
- Reputation (among the local community as well as the photographic community)
We’ve received some amazing applications, thanks to everyone for the strong response. Modern Photographers is off to a hugely successful launch!
We have also received a few applications which were refunded based on a number of reasons. In addition to professionalism, we are also looking at the applicant’s style. If you are on the fence about whether or not your style of photography fits in with Modern Photographers, here are some questions you should ask yourself before applying. Hopefully, this will help.
Questions to ask yourself before applying:
- Am I targeting a contemporary clientele, or is my branding and website geared to more of a “fine art”, “traditional”, or “purely photojournalistic” crowd?
- Do I have an extensive display of outdated fads on my blog or website? (strong selective color and sloppy borders are two examples of fads that don’t convey a “modern” style)
- Does my website and logo convey a fresh modern style, or did I design my site to reach a more traditional crowd? (We are looking for color, big pictures on the site and blog, as well as contemporary branding).
- What does my profile picture convey? Is it a traditional studio portrait, or is it representative of a fresh modern style?
- Are most of the pictures on my blog or website stiff poses, or do I show off a range of emotion, creative posing, and artistic documentation?
Hopefully, by asking yourself these questions before applying, your decision to apply will become easier.
Again, we are not out to judge art, we are simply trying to build a quality referral listing of like-minded creatives to reach like-minded clients. To reach the contemporary client, we only want to refer contemporary photographers.
When it comes to style, we love the rule-breakers. When it comes to professionalism, we strongly believe in standards. If you feel confident that you would be a good fit in Modern Photographers, we’d love for you to apply! Modern Photographers is a network of photographers for photographers, so the local members in your area will vote on your acceptance. We look forward to reviewing your application. The membership fee of $250 is required upon applying (to ensure serious inquiries only). We will review your application within 2-3 weeks. If you are not accepted, your fee will be refunded in full within 3 weeks.
